It was quite a busy week for Ayuda volunteers! Between adoptions, more abandoned puppies in need of foster care and homes, another big clinic day for Panajachel, and a fun fundraiser at Solomon’s Porch, we all put in a lot of time in support our furry friends.
The team welcomed a new member at the April Panajachel clinic. Alena N. is visiting the lake for the month of April. She will begin her veterinary studies at Tuft’s University this fall and asked to volunteer with Ayuda while here. It’s always a pleasure to have enthusiastic, skilled visitors take an interest in our program. Alena also brought some much needed parasite treatments as a donation. These were put into immediate use during the clinic.
38 animals received the Ayuda Care Package: sterilization, combo vaccination, de-wormer, and flea/tick treatment.
Then there was the very successful fundraiser on Friday night at Solomon’s Porch. We were thrilled to see almost 80 dancing locals come to support Ayuda and have a fun night. This was more than twice what we were expecting.
The event was initiated, facilitated, and run entirely by Solomon’s Porch, which also gave a generous donation from the evening’s sales of food and beverages.
Big thanks go to Lloyd, Melanie, Mirna, Jez, and the Porch crew; to the musicians who donated their time: Prof D., Cush, Luis, Abel, Sacha, Lisandro, and our very own intern, Dra. Kimberly; to Steve and Kat from La Fortuna for representing Ayuda, chartering a boat, and more; and to all of our friends who came out in support of Ayuda!
The event raised enough to cover all expenses for one full sterilization clinic for 35-40 animals!

Now it’s back to work! Puppies, puppies, and one sweet cat!
Since the last post, “Booster”, “Toffee”, and “Lucky” have found their permanent homes with local families. Just in time as so many others have been recently abandoned in the streets all around the Lake.
